Nikon does it again with their 1.8G series primes, this time with 24mm.
Press release here: http://www.nikonusa.com …erspectives-in-Focus.html![]()
Like the 28, 35, 50 and 85mm stablemates, it only has 7 aperture blades against the 9 in most of the 1.4G equivalents.
Still no VR
Still a G type (no Electromagnetic aperture drive) which matches the rest of the recent 1.8 stable but is a little surprising given the number of E type lenses being released since the 300/4 PF
Compared with their 24/1.4G:
- Shorter MFD: 0.23 vs 0.25m
- and accordingly a slightly better max magnification: 0.2x vs 0.179x
- 7 vs 9 aperture blades
- smaller filter: 72 vs 77mm
- smaller physically: 77.5x83mm vs 83x88.5mm
- lighter: 355g vs 620g
- Cheaper: 1/3-1/2 the price of the 1.4G
Looking forward to seeing reviews of this one. I am expecting it to perform very well, only giving up a little exposure speed, little less out of focus blur quantity and possibly a little less out of focus quality but performance for money should be exceptional.
Yet another option to cloud my future wide angle decisions
