Hot shoe fail...

Having an issue with my 60d and the hot shoe...
My flash won't fire, the triggers won't fire, etc...Nothing is lose, it's free of dirt and whatnot, and everything works on my 7D so I know it's a camera issue. Just wondering if anyone on the interwebs had any thoughts before I take it in to be looked at.

First thought, if your flash is not E/TTL, make sure you don't have the camera set for ETTL.

Check the hotshoe itself and make sure that the side tabs aren't slightly bent or anything. Make sure that the flash is able to be fully seated forward so that the pins can lineup. If that still doesn't work, carefully pull back on the flash just a little and make sure it isn't somehow letting the flash move too far forward.


Do you have an electronics multimeter by any chance? Try manually testing the contacts and see if you can confirm that circuit is closing when you snap a photo.


It could be that the internal contact below the hotshoe has failed and a solder joint has let go.

does the pop up flash work?

Well, I bought brand new batteries for both the flashes and they started working again. Probably should have done that from the get go, but since they both worked on my 7d, I didn't think to. Thanks for the replies!
