I strongly suggest looking for someone local to you. Web developers are common, and you can pay less by hiring someone online to do the work, but being able to meet up at a coffee shop and sit down to talk about what is going on is a very valuable thing that many overlook.

Both my webpages are one Squarespace. I can recommend that.

I could help you, or even build it for you on that platform, but I doubt you would be interested in wiring moneys across the pond :] But do check squarespace.

What functions are you looking for?

Gallery? Shopping cart function?

What do you want it coded in? HTML? PHP? ASP?

Do you already have a host?

I run a Photography business and my partner and I used http://connellcreatives.com (external link)
Their packages are really well priced for small businesses.

Well priced because their spell checker quit so they saved his/her salary? On this page, http://connellcreatives.com/our-portfolio/ (external link) I see "univerisites".

Not sure if I'm allowed to post my website here so just have a look for yourself haha

I specialize in developing websites for photographers (external link). I do Wordpress (with a variety of themes), Good Gallery, SquareSpace, probably anything else. My general aim is to get people what they need as quickly and cheaply as possible. Send me a message via my website if you want more info.

There are plenty of businesses online that allow you to design and build your own website using ready made templates and they will supply a domain name as well....Why pay someone else when you could do it yourself ??
Just a thought..

Some reasons I've run across:
- I don't have time
- I don't enjoy that kind of thing (and I can afford to pay someone)
- I have no idea how to do this, even with a basic tool like SquareSpace

People's IT skills vary hugely. I'm working with one customer who doesn't even know her passwords, tried to do stuff herself, and created a huge mess - losing her email, parts of her website on different servers, absolutely no SEO done, performance not great.
