It is with no small regret that I am offering up my Canon 400mm f/5.6L lens. The lens is 11 years old and has some small marks on it - most of which can be seen in the images that follow. Nothing major at all, just the sort of things you would expect to see on an 11 year old lens. The glass is totally clean, and it takes awesomely sharp, sharp photos photos wide open today, the same as it did when I first got it, brand new. (I am the original owner). If you are looking for a great lens, this is it. If you want a showcase piece, I suggest moving on
For those that might not know about this lens, it does not have IS, but for birds in flight, it's still hard to beat since you need to keep your shutter speed up to the point that IS is of little use anyhow. It also suffers from a less-than-stellar Minimum Focus Distance of 11.5 ft. But that is the design and part of the reason it focuses so blazingly fast an weighs just 2.75 lbs. You can handhold this baby all day long! If you have concerns about the pluses and minuses to this lens, I encourage you to search the Canon forum here and you will see countless threads about it.
Those of you who know me and my photography, know that I won't suffer a lens that isn't sharp. If I had limitless funds I would certainly keep this lens, but as I share my lenses with my wife, we've both agreed that the new 100-400mm ver. II, would now be a more suitable choice for us, especially as she does not shoot as much wildlife as I do, and so the prime must go.
In the photos, you will see a piece of electrical tape on the tripod collar ring. This is a personal modification to make the collar screw-down just a bit more snug. It can be easily removed. The Arca Swiss plate IS NOT INCLUDED.
I'm hoping to get $825 for it which includes shipping the the US, the original box, case and manual (I.e. Everything that came with it new and is pictured below). Payment through Paypal.
