Does this really look as bad as my daughter says?

I went climbing last Tuesday and got this image just after sunrise. It had just been raining and I liked the low cloud effect around the mountain.

My daughter was walking past the computer and saw this photo and said, "Hey Dad. I was just watching Jurassic Park with my friends, and that looks like that big pile of steaming dinosaur poo in the movie. You know the scene where he sticks his hand into it...."

Well that's ruined this photo for me, but what do you guys think? Does it have any good qualities?

The pic really doesn't do anything for me. It lacks any detail and my eyes wander for something to lock onto. Perhaps a little playing around in PS to get some detail in the foreground.

Cool shot . . . I love moody pictures!

Here's a quick tweak in Levels, with some L moves in LAB to help the detail. Throw in a few selective color edits and now it has some depth.

Interesting image - the Jurassic Park spin that it. I like the depth that MisterJP added, but a neat shot all around.

I like the tweaked version, more color. But very pretty scene.

Thanks for the Tweeked version Mister JP. The "original" RAW version, had plenty of foreground detail. Unfortunately going from RAW > TIFF > PS > JPEG > RESIZE > UPLOAD it lost a lot of the foreground detail.

Here's another I took a few minutes later, including foreground. A large storm front was moving in (from left) and it had indeed become very dark and forebodeing. Getting better detail of the township by making it brighter, seems to make it look fake somehow. (Lightning struck the mountain shortly after this...time for me to hide in a cave!!!)

The cloud hides all the details, plus something in the foreground, they were rather distracting. Composition wise, second one is better, yet it's lack of something in the photo.

To me it's solely a composition issue.

The first image is far better than the overly shopped rendering.. it has mood to it,.. and looks like a foggy mountian at sunset should look.. pumping more color in makes it more colorfull, yes,. but it also makes it look odd and wrong.

It looks there was a great moment in lighting and atmosphere waiting to be captured.. and you managed to get a piece of it.. but just not quite the right slice.
