Few days ago I have noticed that my camera's shutter probably gone:

I thought it was my camera strap, but unfortunately it was not. :(

This is an old camera 1Ds Mark II that has a a huge shutter count.

So my question is, should I repair it? and how much would it be?

Or maybe it a time to get a new camera? Any recommendations for replacement?

Great older camera, not sure if they are still supported by Canon or not.

Ring them up and ask. From memory, replacement shutter is not too bad of a price but it depends upon how much you are willing to spend.

If your happy with the body including the battery life (which is poor by today's standards), have it repaired either by Canon or some other camera repair specialist.

If you wanted to replace it, a 1DsMk3 or even a 1DMk3 are quite reasonable and a bit of an improvement over the Mk2. Next suggestion would be the 6D.

Thanks!
I just checked on Canon website, they say: Service is No Longer Available for This Product :( :(

I think I will be happy with 1Ds Mark III, checked classified section, but nothing there.

Your profile doesn't indicate where you live, but if you live in the States a call to the Canon Loyalty Program (CLP) might be worth your time. From all indications the CLP was sufficiently changed this past spring to make it not worthwhile, but hey, it is a toll free phone call. The way the program worked is you basically got a refurbished camera at the refurbished price less about 20% (varied by model) by returning a damaged camera. In my case (summer 2011) I got a 60D body for about $630 and the camera had a shutter count in the low 40's, essentially "new". The MSRP was $1000 at the time.

I would suggest you first go into the Canon refurbished website and see what might be listed to fill your needs. Then give the CLP people a call. The phone number the CLP was (866) 443-8002. Select option "2". Hopefully it will still work.

Report back what you learn.

I just looked up the prices and I am wondering if 6D is a better camera overall, or I should look for 1DsMkIII for the body and battery life?

Heya,

Depends on you and what you shoot.

Overall, the cost to repair a 1Ds II is probably not worth it (you'd have to do a private third party repair and pay for parts & labor which may or may not even have the parts available). Moving to a 1Ds III, you gain a little bit. But ultimately you're spending quite a bit for what it is without a lot of modern things that are nice too. I would continue with the 1Ds series if you wanted to get another camera that could not be repaired by Canon, is heavy and made of metal and solid, aggressive AF (though the 1Ds series are not fast in FPS, they're quite slow). If you wanted to get better ISO performance, better IQ in general, modern features (live view, wifi, video, etc), more resolution, etc, then maybe look to the 6D with a grip for cost.

Very best,

I have called Canon Loyal program and they have offered me $60 (sixty dollars) for old camera. I don't think it makes any difference.
I think I will be buying used 6D or 5D MIII depends on my financial situation.

Just remember the going rate for a used 1DII charger....

some fairly old canon camera stuff, canon lenses, Manfrotto "thingy", and an M5, also an M6 that has had a 720nm filter bolted onto the sensor:

Just so you know, the CLP program no longer offers a fixed percentage off the refurb prices... That was the big change that made it very useless as the discounts offered were definitely paltry. (They probably caught on that everyone was giving them a broken P&S off ebay to get couple hundred off a DSLR).

Unless you need the 1 series build quality you probably should look at a newer full frame body.
