This morning PBase disappeared along my hundreds of images. So now, most of my pictures that I have posted on POTN are just empty boxes. I guess that it is time to get a reliable photo hosting service. Any recommendations?

Are you saying PBase disappeared, or just your photos?
I just checked and the site seems to be working ok. Perhaps just a temporary glitch, and your images will return.

As a side note, when I read message forums I don't see too much discussion about PBase. Mostly it's smugmug or zenfolio.
When I started the photography hobby 7 years ago, PBase was all the rage.

Here is a screen shot of what I see whether I try to go to my home page or the main page at http://www.pbase.com (external link)

I do agree that PBase has not kept up with the others. It is a mom and pop photo sharing site that has probably been going downhill for a very long time. SmugMug looks like a site that has a lot to offer. I have been feeling like I was locked into PBase because of all the images on POTN that are linked to that site. It hasn't been tht long since I renewed my membership.

It looks like the domain was updated today and it has an expiration date of August 10th, 2016.

So I would guess that the pbase.com owner accidentally let the domain expire and just renewed it today.

You should be able to access it again later today, you're most likely seeing the effects of cached DNS for the domain at either your ISP, your router, or computer level.

Why all of the blank spaces with the blue box question marks? Those question mark blanks persisted even after refreshing the page multiple times, closing and re-opening, etc. Then I looked in your Pacific Northwest 2009 gallery and tried to view the Twilight movie set image, but it wasn't there........why would photos be missing - what's up with that???

.........I have been feeling like I was locked into PBase because of all the images on POTN that are linked to that site.

That is a great reason why it is usually better to ATTACH images to a post, directly from your computer, as opposed to linking to images that are hosted on a third-party website.

If all images on POTN were attached, we would never have photos in posts that simply disappear - all of the photos would be here forever unless the poster intentionally went into the post and removed the image. As it is, with all of the linked photos, many old posts are useless, as the location of the original image has changed or expired, causing a void in the post where there used to be a photo.

"Your" and "you're" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one.
"They're", "their", and "there" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one.
"Fare" and "fair" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one. The proper expression is "moot point", NOT "mute point".

So half of my galleries are still missing and it appears that Time Warner is caching web pages even though they say that they don't.

The DNS caching may be at your end, try one of these depending on your OS:
https://www.whatsmydns.net/flush-dns.html (external link)

It can also be cached at the router level if you use one although I think this is less common.

You can try switch the DNS you use either OpenDNS or Google Public DNS servers if you'd like to move away from depending on TWC's DNS servers:

There was a problem with PBase a couple years ago and it was down for several weeks. Time for me to do some serious planning for where to move my images.

I used my iPad with Wi-Fi turned off. It is on an AT&T network so that should rule out my computer, or any other caching between me and my ISP. For a while it appeared that PBase was returning to normal, but then the images disappear again.

Bill, when I click on your home page,I now see a full set of images - no more blank spaces with question marks in little blue boxes.
The Twilight movie set image is even visible!

Images are coming and going. Earlier it appeared that all images were back and later many were gone. Looking at the pages, it appears that they were implementing a software update with some additional tools. The text formatting has been a mess all day and hasn't improved. It is especially bad in the user control panel. I'll wait a day or two to see if things improve.
