Hi, I had made a knock off lens coat a few months back. While it was fine, I felt that I had left a little to be desired.

So since I have some time off work, I decided to make a V2 of my home made lens coat.

First, I bought RealTree camo, fleece, and a sticky fabric like you would find on the bottom of a onesie foot.

I used a iron on fuseable for in-between the camo and fleece. I was worried about the rubbery fabric being ruined, so I used a fabric adhesive for that layer.

This is 1 Yard of completed material

Once it was finished, I brought it outside and "weatherproofed" it. by using the Kiwi camp dry spray on sealer. (it actually works quite well)

this is all of the strips cut out and flipped over.

For the hood, front portion, and very rear. I was able to permanently join the material together because I can scoot it along. For the focus ring, and section with the controls, I had to add a section of velcro.

So this is it finished. I made two different hood covers. One (pictured here) that has a extra layer of loose camo netting. I was thinking it may help disguse when the lens extends from a blind. and another (Pictured below) that is completely smooth like the rest of the sections.

I of course made extender covers also, and I added little red dots for the attachment guides.

I hope you enjoy. I know most will think "why didn't he just get a lens coat".

1. I think they are extremely over priced.
2. I don't like the feel of neoprene
3. i genuinely like doing this stuff.

total cost was about 40 bucks. (it was really expensive camo for some reason...)

Looks good, Josh!

The reason I don't want to "just get a lens coat" is quite simple: the neoprene that Lens Coat uses is not nearly thick enough. Plus, they try to make it so that all of the buttons and switches are open. I want thick, thick, THICK neoprene! And I would prefer that most of the buttons and switches on my lenses be covered up, even if it means they are difficult to access. Who uses those buttons, anyway?!

I have a pair of chest waders that use nice, super-thick, "cushy" neoprene. If only they made a lens coat out of that stuff........!

"Your" and "you're" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one.
"They're", "their", and "there" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one.
"Fare" and "fair" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one. The proper expression is "moot point", NOT "mute point".
