Since I rarely dump all the power it's usually pretty much instant. Be careful doing a lot of pops in a row, you can burn out your flash head. There's a guide in the Canon manual. Professional wedding photographer, solution architect and general technical guy with multiple Amazon Web Services certifications.

Maybe I'm just shorter, but I don't have any problem at all clipping it to my belt and using it, without a flash bracket, otherwise it's velcro time. Well worth the money spent.
