If you had no choice but to use only one lens for one year what lens would it be and why? What body would you prefer to have with it and why either owned or on your wish list.

Out of all of your gear lets just say that you could only grab and use one lens for a year starting right now....

1st year I would choose my 6D and the 70-200 F4 L, reason being it takes amazing quality images.
2nd Year would be 6D and the 16-35 F2.8 L I just got it but need to learn it I have seen amazing things accomplished with it
3rd year would be 6D with the 150-600 Sigma I have the 150-500 and can only imagine the shots I could get with a bit more reach.

I am curious to see everyones particular choices and reasons...

I use my 35mm lens at least 95% of the time. I could go a whole lifetime if I had to with that single focal length. I love it.

For me, it would have to be 7DII and the Sigma 50-500.

For the versatility and ability to deliver for my chosen subject matter I'd choose my 50 Art on the 5d3.

5DIII + 70-200 F2.8 IS II

Why? Because its the most versatile combo that would average the most use out of what I have.

For me it would be the Canon 400 f2.8 IS.
I already have this lens. But, if I could only have one lens for one year, I would choose the newer version "2".

Why the 400 f2.8 IS v2 ?
Well, because of the combination of versatility and overall excellence.

VERSATILITY:
use it with my full frame, my 1.3 crop, or my 1.6 crop
use it "naked", with the 1.4x extender, or with the 2.0x extender
this results in effective focal lengths of 400mm, 520mm, 560mm, 640mm, 728mm, 800mm, 1040mm, 1120mm, and 1280mm
it practically becomes a 400-1280mm zoom!
MFD is pretty close, and does not increase with the addition of an extender, so it can be used quite effectively as a close up lens

EXCELLENCE: (the latest version)
4 stop IS
extremely accurate AF
extremely fast AF
tack sharp, even wide open
rich, accurate color rendition and contrast
pleasingly smooth OOF areas
wonderful compatibility with the version 3 extenders, with respect to image quality

Not having anything wider than 400mm would hurt a bit, but it wouldn't have too much of a negative effect on the photography I do.

"Your" and "you're" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one.
"They're", "their", and "there" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one.
"Fare" and "fair" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one. The proper expression is "moot point", NOT "mute point".

I feel like it'd be cheating to pick a 24-120mm f4 and a D810, but it'd cover ~90% of what I shoot. If I had to pick a prime I'd go for 35mm 1.8 on the same body, it'd be a bit limiting but I could make due and be relatively satisfied.

As long as I'm not shooting any weddings then this would be the perfect pick. I've had mine 2 months now and I don't think I use it enough.

Otherwise it's my 5D Mark II with the 24-105 L. It's a great all around walk around lens for me.
