I would like a set up for outdoors, HSS, and around $500 a unit. I would also need some stands as well. This would be for location portraits. So I am looking for a setup with at least two lights. I have the yongnuo YN622C-TX and YN 622C transceiver.
I need the whole set up so I am open to suggestions. I have Canon 5Dmk3 and the 85 1.2L and 135 f/2. I would be looking for lights, soft boxes, stands etc.
I have been reading up. I use to have White lightnings for indoors. I was interested in Einsteins or Alienbees but so far they dont do HSS?. That is a requirement for me
Heya,
I was in the same boat, about to get the Cheetah version of the AD360. Ultimately I went Rovelight. Practically the same price ($430 vs 480?) when I was hopping. I now use the Rovelight 600B (bowen's mount) that I got for $480 on a Cheetah stand Boom stand ($120?) with two big modifiers, one is a Fotodiox EZpro 48" octa softbox ($110?) and the other is a 60" Impact silver/white/black umbrella ($30!). The stand I got holds the weight of the Rovelight & softbox just fine on the boom, extended out a bit, with a counter weight and I only use it outside, in the wind, here in Florida. When I'm really worried about the wind, I have bungees and spikes in the counter weight bag that holds it down, and it's very stable, but still light enough to carry around and move from one location to the next. The umbrella setup I use is even lighter and I am starting to like it even more because the bigger surface area is awesome. The Rovelight is powerful enough that I can use HSS with the light as a bounce into a silver lined umbrella and still get good lighting in the sun. Very flexible versatile light.
No tricks needed with the Rovelight for HSS. Your YN622 with a sync cable plugged in does it without any fancy settings or weird tricks, just plug it in, set your camera, and turn the Rovelight on to HSS mode and you're good to go. I only use the stock transmitter to remotely change the power level, nothing more. I use YN622's for the triggering and HSS and it's flawless.
Overall I don't regret getting the less powerful AD360 (a nice light though!). I'm very happy with the Rovelight. Portable. Can over power the sun mid-day here in Florida no problem. And powerful enough to do HSS as a bounce and still fill. That's just nice if you're an outdoor shooter in the sun.
48" octa on boom arm with counter weight and rovelight. No problem.

Big 60" umbrella used as a bounce (silver lined, black cover) in HSS, very light weight, very powerful, huge light source. I currently think I like this setup the best, because it's just so versatile (shoot through, bounce, etc, and it's BIG).

Here's the kind of light I can get:
Modifier is 5~6 feet away from subject.
Silver lined black backed 60" umbrella at 45 degree angle to subject.
Rovelight at 1/4th power, in HSS mode, shooting into the umbrella and bouncing back on the subject.
Camera at 1/1000s, F2.8, ISO 100.
I still could have gotten 2 more stops of light out of the Rovelight in HSS if needed.

Here's the softobx (48" octa) on the Rovelight. Same settings and power and all that pretty much, also 4~5 feet to subject.
1/1000s, F2.8, ISO 100.
48" octa, 1/4th power (if I remember?) on the Rovelight in HSS.
