Seems like Mid to Late August will usually bring a hummingbird or three. They sometimes stay as late as early November, gaining weight, before crossing the Gulf of Mexico. This one appears to be a first year male.

Thanks Ron and Lester. A second HB showed briefly this morning and it didn't escape the notice of the original. We will see how it turns out.

Very nice, Jim. Got to remember to get my feeder up as soon as we get there in mid- September. Usually not there that early, so hopeful.

Thanks John, Peter and Rog. At the end of the day, yesterday, I was sitting outside reading. My chair is about five feet from the feeder. I set down my book and gazed upward to find our HB friend perched at the feeder and looking rather intently at me. He wasn't feeding, just looking ... another thirty seconds of this and off he went into the evening. So glad to have them around and sad to see them go.
