My refractor with focal length 506mm isn't the ideal focal length typically used for galaxies, but this galaxy is big and bright, and was in the right part of the sky at the right time. Quite pleased with the result.

Thoroughly recommend looking at the full sized image - see how many background galaxies you can see/count ;)
Update - this link is to an annotated image (external link) to help find the background galaxies from the NGC, IC, and PGC catalogs. Some are small and tricky, looking like stars, but they're definitely galaxies. Way more than I imagined.

Nice work. How many other galacies are there? I counted 6 other galaxies. And you captured them pretty well.

I'm in Canada. Isn't that weird!

Thanks guys.

I've added a link in original post to an annotated image. There's close to 100 background galaxies there - some would be mistaken for stars, but they're there and easily identifiable with the annotations.

Spectacular image Troy. I really enjoyed the large file, galaxies everywhere!
