Hello.

I stopped using my camera for about three weeks while major building works at my home were completed.
Rightly or wrongly, it was stored with both batteries in the grip. When I used it for the first time this weekend the batteries were both still charged to about 60%

To my surprise the camera had changed all the settings to default values with the exception of the date and time.

Is this normal? Has anyone had the same thing?

My thanks in advance.

I don't think it's normal.

Nor do I in truth.
I thought the internal battery would remember my settings even if I removed the main batteries.

I've stored mine for a month or two and never lost anything and both batteries reported 100% at startup. This is with a GENUINE Canon grip

Are you using a Canon grip? did you leave the grip controls switched to "on?"

Yes, it's a genuine canon grip with canon batteries.
The grip was off as it is most of the time.

Is it possible there is a two button reset I accidentally pressed?

It's not a major issue it just got me wondering if my camera was defective.

Mine doesn't do that either. Nothing changes if I remove the battery or let it sit for a long period.

That's kind of odd.

The only thing I can tell you for sure is that something's wrong, which you already knew. The grip is the grip. There's noting particularly special about it as far as resets and such go.

Have you tried the camera without the grip to see if it does the same thing?

The only battery that can reset the camera settings is the coin cell back up battery. If your coin cell battery is good, it may indicate something's wrong with either electrical contacts or the camera itself. I would try cleaning the coin cell/contacts first If possible.

The 6D has a user accessible backup battery?

You're right. It doesn't. Looks like it's an internal rechargeable battery.

In that case, it's quite clear than the rechargeable battery may require attention. OP, you will likely have to send it back to Canon.

OP stated that the date and time were NOT reset, and that the batteries still had 60% charge. No way it is the internal battery.

Well, then Canon can have a look at the eeprom memory circuitry. Either way, OP will have to take it back to Canon.

Do you have a suggestion on what the OP can do or what the problem may be? You seem to be certain on what the problem may not be.

There is some likelihood that in 6 weeks of storage the OP forgot what settings he left the camera with. It is likely that the camera was touched used by another user. I would just wait. I don't see a reason to send it to Canon, yet. Losing power to the internal battery will reset the date and time. That did not happen. It is not the battery. What it IS, is not an issue as of yet.
