File numbering on my 7dii is set to continuous and I have had no issues with it up to this point. I also had it set up to write RAW files to the CF card and a jpg to the SD card. This past weekend I reached 9999 for the first time. It rolled over back to 0001 and incremented from there. However, the next memory card I put in(and formatted) it reset back to 0001. I ended up with 3 memory cards of identical file names because it reset back to 0001 on each card.

After experimenting a little more recently, it is resetting to 0001 each time I format the CF card. Then I remembered the SD card. I removed that, shot with CF card only and no issues. I put in a different SD card, formatted both the CF and SD card and no issues.

The SD card I removed was the one that was in the camera when the numbering rolled over from 9999 to 0001. The camera created a new folder and started from 0001 on the SD card. Each time I put in a new CF card and formatted, it created a new folder on the SD card and started at 0001.

Is there a way to keep this numbering reset from happening the next time it rolls over from 9999 to 0001?

There's a number setting in the menu somewhere. I had the same problem with my 350D years ago. Google it. You should be able to find the answer.

Shampoo sounds like an unfortunate name for a hair product.

Avoid having cards with different numbering on them in the camera. The problem is that even with contiuos numbering, if you insert a card with a higer number it will reset the numbering to that when you insert and format a new card. As you have a card with 9999 in the camera already, it is resetting the count to that value, so when you format the new card the next sequential number is 0001.
