Hi all,

I was hoping for a bit of help with my next potential erm... purchase?
Not so much a purchase as a swap. Basically i'm getting rid of my 70-200 f2.8 (Tamron) in exchange for an sigma 8mm f3.5 ex dg.
I was wondering if anyone had any samples of this on a 1.3x crop as all i can find online is on FF and on 1.6x crop :-( from what i understand it won't be fully circular (as on ff) and won't be full of picture (like on the crop) but it will have almost like a small vignette in the corners. Is this right?

I want to use the lens for skate / free-running / parkour / MTB / Inside track cars. so should be a great angle to work with.

I was looking at a 10mm but i want something OTT and Extreme wide angle to really accentuate things.

It will look something like this (probably the least exciting picture available but gives you the idea).

That's a Canon 8-15mm @ 8mm on a 1DII.

IMO it looks terrible as is, but gives you more freedom with respect to aspect ratios when cropping than you would get on a full coverage fisheye (at the expense of some resolution).

Took me a while to realize that wasn't a white onion with a slice taken out of it on a black background. :)

Hi, I really appreciate the reply. Is it possible you could take a quick shot of erm... something identifyable like a room or out a window or something? just trying to work out what kind of fov it would provide. That looks like a fair bit of black... is it a realistically usable lens or am i going for something stupid?

For context this was taken from about where the temporary fence is on the other side of the statue here - https://www.google.com.au …CdwNkA!2e0!7i13312!8i6656 (external link) - so it's 180 degree FOV from edge of circle to edge of circle.

If will give you a look that you just can't get with any other lens, but on the other hand is fairly limited in what is does provide...

No problem - as long as it doesn't show up somewhere with your name on it :p I'll send you a link to the full res.

The Canon 8-15mm will do it. Is full coverage on APS-H at about 12mm.

12mm seems to be the magic number, I was also talking to people in another thread and they have recommended the following lenses:

Sigma 8-16
Sigma 12-24
Rokinon/Bowers/Vivitar/Samyang 14 F2.8

so think i'll pass on this person's 8mm fixed and opt for something a little longer, I guess even 12mm will give a massive FOV compared with a 24-70
