I exported a file and put a watermark on it when it was exported. Now when I go into ligjtroom the watermark is on the file. Is there a simple way to remove it in ligjtroom so I have the master copy without it....
Edit... I changed the name before I exported it. It was exported to the same folder as the original file came from. I've exported photos a milion times and this is the first time I did this...

When you export from LR one of the options you have is to import the exported file into the library. This is not something I usually do, but usually in situations where an exported file is imported into the library, such as when I edit images in PS, that exported file is stacked with the original. Usually it will be placed at the top of the stack. That can make it look as if the original image has been replaced, as the images within a stack only show if the stack is expanded. Try a right click select stacking and select expand all stacks, this should allow you to see ALL of the images in the library. IIRC adding the exported image to the catalogue is an option down at the bottom of the export dialogue.

OP, can you provide a little more information on exactly what you did as I am unable to replicate your problem. Was the original image a RAW or JPEG and what do you mean by "changed the name first"?

I can't find anyway in Lightroom to export an image to the same folder/location using the same name (IE overwriting/replacing the original). It will only allow me to create a new file with a different name, leaving the original untouched.

Could it be that you have image stacking enabled? That might cause LR to stack the new and original images together so you only see the new one.

How is the watermark showing in Lightroom? Normally, you import photos into your Lightroom catalog. You do your edits, select which files you want to export, do your export (with resize and/or watermark) to a separate folder, and then those exports stay separate from the Lightroom catalog. The only way I could see a watermark showing up in an image in Lightroom is if you imported the exported folder...or maybe if the export was to your source folder.

If you export an image with the "add to catalog" check box ticked LR will add the new image to the catalog so it will be visible. But that is the new image that was created during export, the original wont have it.

Yeah, you'd see the original and watermarked export in the catalog right? Haven't tried that myself, but with photo merge and such, I've noticed new images just get added to the catalog (only same name jpgs and RAWs have one thumbnail)....we need more info. There's no way the catalog would show a watermark if the export is a separate folder or "add to catalog". Or maybe if you add to catalog and the watermarked jpeg is the same filename (so it's overwriting the original jpeg and that's what's used in thumbnails).....just my thoughts.

I had a file that had a number IMG_234, IMG_235 and IMG_236 they were merged in photomatix and exported, then imported into lightroom. Work was done in ligjtroom, name changed and exported into the same folder with a watermark.

I guessed the same as bigAl have you checked to see if you are dealing with a stack?

Did you overwrite the original image with the one you exported? Will Lightroom even do that?

Generally, the exported images should be treated as ephemeral, temporary objects. Export them to a temporary location so you can share or publish them, then get rid of them - if you ever need it again you can just export another. Don't put the exported image back into your catalog with the originals.

Which Lightroom module are you seeing the watermarked image? It would be visible in the Print module for example and shouldn't be visible in the Develop module.
