I haven't noticed a green cast other than on my test shots above, and that is to be expected, I think. :)

I agree with the results. I never had an issue pushing my 7D and the 7D2 is better. I still think when the light is good the 7D2 excellent. In heavy overcast and equal exposures the 5D3 is cleaner.

I love the combo and will continue to use both. Now I need to come up with $3000 for the 11-24.

Thanks TeamSpeed, nice review. Do you think you might update your high ISO noise actions for the 7D2?

I've seen AWB fail on the 7D2 when the frame includes brightly colored uniforms; sometimes I need to switch WB over to flash in post, in order to correct my shots. It doesn't seem to have as much of a problem when shooting landscapes or normally attired people. AWB makes some strong assumptions about the color space of the subject frame, and unfortunately, a lot of my sports work violates those assumptions rather egregiously. ;)

I am still working through the nuances. At this point, I am trying to produce an image better than the results from in-camera JPG with High ISO NR set to standard at high ISO values like 12800.

This is where I am at currently with ISO 12800. I am able to remove nearly 1 stop of noise, but I feel I can do better. The raw image, then my current methodology, and then the in-camera JPG....

That is pretty amazing TeamSpeed. I've been pretty happy with the 7D2 high ISO, but your techniques do extend things farther yet. My how far we've come since film like Konica 3200, which had monstrously huge visible grain.

The 5D3 doesn't have auto ISO configurations like the 7D2 does, in fact you cannot even add EC to manual mode with auto ISO set. There isn't much of a comparison, as the only thing the 5D3 has is an ISO setting called Auto that you can set during manual.

The 7D2 has a configuration for auto-ISO, where you set a min shutter speed, or you can set shutter speed behavior in a pseudo auto mode (faster shutter vs slower shutter), and during manual mode, you can set EC for auto ISO. Finally, in the CF menu, you have the ability to lock in minimum shutter speeds of any value, minimum aperture settings, etc. This means you can configure manual, Av and Tv in any way you want using auto-ISO.

It was middle AF, I can try to do the other test, but I never saw that situation with my various copies of the original 7D? I used those in sports and would often use the end AF points to track players, etc. It sounds like a defective 7D, and not something to be attributed to the entire 7D line, so I wouldn't be too worried.

This is what the 5D3 needs, maybe in an firmware update.

Like they did with the 7D, and milk the 5D3 tec for a few more years.

Agree Big time. Its going to have to be one hell of an update to get me to jump off these 5D3's. I would need at least a stop ISO and dark and shadow improvement to consider

The 7D2 and Sigma did pretty well today, of course the conditions were nearly perfect, so there was no real test of the equipment.

A couple of gull shots to show the 7D2 tracking using the big ol' sigma lens, it did alright. About a 50% crop...

Straight out of camera JPGs with low light, no additional post processing, high ISO NR set to standard, picture style had a bit extra sharpening set....

Keep the comments coming, please. I just purchased a 5D Mk III and already had a 6D and a 70D. Now I'm trying to decide which one to let go. I have some nice EF-S glass and have been considering throwing out the baby with the bath water (selling the 6D and the 70D) and buying a Mk II and being done with it. You guys are making it very easy to go in that direction.

I really want a good crop to take advantage of the reach of my 70-200 2.8 IS and my 100-400L without my 1.4 and 2.0 extenders in play. I also have a EF-S 10-22 and 17-55 2.8 which I really cannot afford to replace with EF's right now and I hate to lose that functionality.

I wish my equipment list would show but I can't seem to make it work! :(

Great 411!
