Nikkor 70-200mm f/2.8 Accident

Last Saturday I had an accident and felt on my backpack, my 70-200 lens suffered and the UV filter attached to it resulted broken. Luckily nothing happened to the lens and it seems to have no damage but I can't remove the filter ring as it is bended on one side. What would you recommend? Have you ever had an accident like this?

I had my 70-200 in a LowPro lens exchange . Turns out you shouldn't pick it up from the bottom when its not zipped and buttoned up

It was in slow motion as the lens made a god awe full crash noise on a stone patio

Luckily it landed first on the lens foot mount before it bounced.

I checked sharpness and AF and VR and it seems to work fine. I think I just got lucky

As far as the lens filter ring, I removed a bent one by using a jewelers saw to cut the ring down and a couple places, just to point where threads are ( female thread of the lens ) . Was able then to use pump pliers ( slip joint ) to collapse the filter in enough so I could completely cut through and remove the ring in segments

The female threads of the lens were not too bad and with a tiny bit of tweaking it was GTG

So there is no glass left in the filter? Get a Dremel tool and a thin cut-off wheel and do as suggested above. The filter ring is pretty soft and you should get it off with little to no damage to the lens.

I've had success with vice grips attached to the remaining filter, make sure to bend it towards the middle and it should be fairly pliable.
