Nowadays the riders wear safety vests, so if they fall off the vest inflates. Its just like a car air bag!, hence the small amount of smoke on the instant inflation

Just kidding of course.

What triggers the vest inflation? Inertia?
edit: I did some research; sounds like there is a 'leash' that detaches upon dismount causing the cartridge to activate.

Very nice series.

Yeah the 100-400 is really to much for this type of Equestrian photography. Sometimes even the 70-200 was to much lol

Regards the IS on the lens, it stays on all the time.

At the end of the day you buy what you can afford, though IMO I would save more to by the best
