I spent a couple of hours yesterday morning at the Huntington Gardens in San Marino, California. It is an oasis in the big city and we are regulars there.
Yesterday morning was nice because the marine layer (overcast) lasted until around noon. I shot with a 1DIV, 300/2.8 IS (the old version) and 1.4x and 2x teleconverters, both are version III. The effective focal length was about 780mm for some of the shots and, for the first time for me, I got some that required no cropping.
I was quite happy with the sharpness of the vIII TC's. I just upgraded to them this summer.
Unfortunately the drought is making them let the lawn go a bit brown so the backgrounds are not quite as nice as they were in previous years.
