I had seen on another board that someone said that the A7Rii was not as sharp in the corners as the 5DSR both using the same lens.

This is NOT an exact test using a tripod but instead handheld. I did so because the 24-105 F4 is actually my goto 5DSR lens shot at F5.6 - F8 because the charts show it to be tack sharp across the frame (on a tripod) and the IS makes hand holding it at reasonable SS doable.

So, this is what it looks like

Let me know what you see?

The light did not change - the pictures were taken very quickly back to back

Hockey and wedding photographer. Favourite camera / lens combos: a 1DX II with a Tamron 45 1.8 VC, an A7Rii with a Canon 24-70F2.8L II, and a 5DSR with a Tamron 85 1.8 VC. Every lens I own I strongly recommend [Canon (35Lii, 100L Macro, 24-70F2.8ii, 70-200F2.8ii, 100-400Lii), Tamron (45 1.8, 85 1.8), Sigma 24-105]. If there are better lenses out there let me know because I haven't found them.

when i look at the top left corner of each image together they look very very close in detail

i am not addressing the canon crushing the blacks versus sony

i think if i'm very very picky i can see the slightest more detail in the wood in the upper left corner on the 5dsr than on the sony but it is tiny tiny tiny

the images were handheld at 1/100

Sony had the electronic 1st curtain - Canon did not

they were taken at 105mm (not exactly the sharpest part of the lens but at F5 which is plenty sharp)

my take is that I don't see, on my 24-105 with my MB4 adapter any harm coming to the Sony with a Canon lens

when i look at the center i see the Sony being sharper

my guess is that this is IBIS in action as 1/100 handheld IBIS is still an advantage and why i personally was interested in this camera for handheld prime lens shooting

when i get more time i will shoot it on a tripod with the 100-400II at f8 and i'm pretty sure this is where you will see the canon move ahead

when you combine the fact that the Sony looks sharper in the center AND maybe the Canon looks very very very slightly sharper at the edge - maybe there is 'something' that isn't working perfectly but if it is it seems very very small

With the 24-105L at f/5 and 105mm on 50MP and 42MP bodies, the limiting factor is the lens...

This. The 24-105 gets really soft after the 50-70mm range. Not a good example. Try this with a fast prime.
