I was just wondering if anybody had ever tried to use two Eye-Fi cards in the Canon 5D MkIII. Eye-Fi makes a compact flash adapter specifically designed for this purpose (using an Eye-Fi card in a Compact flash slot).

I'm not sure it's practical or necessary but I really don't want to go back to compact flash since my laptops are all already equipped with SD. I like SD and my needs aren't professional. I'm not even sure I need a card in my CF slot at all in the Mk III but I just wanted to hear others' thoughts on it.

Thanks!

Why not get a regular SD card to then put in CF adapter? Not sure why you'd need two eye-fi (they only need same GB and speeds for redundancy). I'd have the eye-fi in the regular SD slot to not have any incompatability issues. You only need one Eye-Fi for transmitting files: the other card can just be backup.

They have tried, but only a specific set of carriers work well (others are too shielded), and even for those carriers that allow the signal out, the distance is greatly degraded.

The 5D3 is also already handicapped by the SD speed, having an SD in the CF slot is going to really have impacts especially if you don't have anything in the SD slot at all.

I will run the Eyefi in the SD slot and it will transmit JPG to my tablet, and I will store raw on the CF. However the Eyefi then slows down what is already not a great burst speed.

Hmmm if I were to go that route, I would fire off a few in quick sucession and quickly whip out the CF / SD Jacket.

You might be unpleasantly surprised how hot the Sd card is. Not sure if this applies to EyeFi but the RF shielding of the camera, forced the power output up withthe Toshiba Air. And consequentially the heat.

Assuming the the body density of the 5D3 is close to the 7D ( that I was using at the time ) I would definitely go with a std. sD card over a wifi card in case they all suffer from this "feature" - damm that card got hot in a few seconds. I reckon on a 4 hour shoot it would really be at an unacceptable temperature. Well I wouldnt risk my kit.

Note I too, like you far prefer SD Cards, except for the huge limitation in the speed on a 5D3.

Eye-fi makes a plastic CF adapter specifically designed (so they claim) to deal with heat/shielding issues and RF interference. $20US.

Just sayin'....

I've about decided I only need 1 SD card anyway. I've lived that way for years and I've been OK. Like I think I said, I'm not in this professionally at all.
