Did you find a replacement yet? The G15 is a nice choice and has updated features that you may find useful. For me the compatibility to use a timer remote allows for time lapse shoots. High speed video if you do that sort of thing. The 720P video is reasonable though I don't do lots of video. I would give a :-) for a G15 that hovers ~$200 used or $260 when Canon has them refurb. That said I still use my G9 because it has the longer reach when wanted.

This camera has a history of some loose screws touching the wrong parts and shorting out some components. A used G9 will set you back around $150 (+/-) on eBay but there are a lot of parts listed at http://www.ebay.com …wershot+g9+parts&_sacat=0 (external link) should you want to attempt a repair yourself. These links will get you on the way of understanding what is involved. Perhaps watch the last link (the video) first as see if you want to tackle things.

I have a similar problem with my G10. I found some very useful information online which maybe useful to Canon G-series users and other digital camera users.

Firstly, a brief comment about my situation on G10. I had a stuck lens and it will not retract (jammed in open position). I later learned that this is a common problem, and from a YouTube video, I managed to replace the entire lens with a brandnew Canon lens. Cost only $67. I retain my own CCD sensor at the back-end of the new lens. After carefully reinstall all the pieces, I discover that my G10 will not power-up. I felt helpless, and decided to search online for solutions. This is when I located a site (http://servicerepairmanuals.net/ (external link)) where one can purchase a very detailed Service Manual for your camera. As a matter of fact, they carry manuals for a large number of different cameras, most of which only costs $4.

The Canon G10 Service Manual contains blow by blow instructions on how to detect failures of various kinds. Most common failure for a dead camera is the blown fuses (in G9 camera is the power module); the top camera assembly and the PCB board. For DIY users, this is a really good source of information. Hope this information is helpful to you.
