Hi I am very new to digital, but not new to photography. Also being a golden oldie (over 60) I am not my computers best friend. I have just purchased a 20D, an old 1D. I have been given Adobe 7 which I have put about 1000 pics on it from my first digital Lumix (this was bought to pratice on) no probs. But I cannot upload any RAW from my canons. Am I doing something wrong or do I need more software
I would be realy grateful if somebody out there can help

I belive you have to run your images through a RAW converter. Version "7" does not have this, however the new CS version does. There are a couple of free converters on the web, if you do a search there are a couple that people here like. Or you can buy one. I dont know if one came with your camera or not..

Other people will chim in, that is all that I know

CS is very expensive. If you want something similar, which can handle RAW and that can help you play with your images then Photoshop Elements 4 is a good choice.

You can register at www.adobe.com (external link) and get a free 30 day download.

Even though computers aren't your friend it is quiote straight forward to use, there is also a really good book called "the photoshop Elements book" by Keeby.

Welcome to the forums. Not sure I understand what you are using - 20D and a 1D?

The software that comes with the 20D should allow you to upload the raw images. And you can use several free packages to manipulate and convert them to something Photoshoop 7 can edit. DPP is the Canon supplied raw converter. Raw Shooters Essential (?) is another free raw converter. There are tutorials on the net for both.

If the 20D was purchased new you can upgrade the Elements 2.0 to CS2 for $300. CS2 will let you edit raw images directly and is a great boost to the workflow situation.

Try RawShooter Essentials, it's a free download and you have converted the image to JPEG or TIFF, you can use the photoshop 7 to further edit the image if you want.

But an upgrade from 7 to cs2 is tolerable. PS7 does not have the converter. Also you con download lightroom from adobe, its still in beta release, but I beleive it will handle your canon files just fine. Oh its free now too!!!

Welcome to POTN!!!
