Thanks everyone.

The Zebra I just used various amounts of the Burn tool in lightroom to completely black out the background, then zoomed in at 5:1 or more to do the edges of the Zebra.
It was slow going and a little bit of trial and error for me with the different size and strength of the burn tool but I think it worked out pretty well with keeping the detail of the Zebra on the edges of his mane.

I'll certainly be going back soon, wish I hadn't waited so long seeing as I only live 2hrs north of it. I'd like to head out to Taronga's Western Plains zoo at Dubbo soon too :)
