Hi, I have a brand new 7d Mark I I and took it out for the first time today and after half a dozen shots the AF stopped and the shutter wouldn't release, had to take battery out to get it going , sometimes it wouldn't even power down , had 1.0.4 firmware , anyone else had this problem , was shooting with a 70-200 f2.8 non IS , also tried the 24-105 f4 with the same issue. Reset camera settings tried different modes but just keeps happening. Frustrating

Try a different battery.

If it were me, I would return it as defective and get a replacement but that's just me. I might try a battery first as mentioned above but I wouldn't screw with it much if it's only a day old. It'll bite you again at the most inopportune time. Replace it now so you don't have to ever worry about it again.

Heya,

Could just be a defect of some kind. Since it's new, I would return it as defective and take a new one home.

Very best,

Totally agree, why some people struggle with new defective kit is totally beyond my comprehension.

Plus if you do, you will see the other "face of Canon" when you eventually give up, and they say its too late.

Its really pretty simple, imagine it was a new car. If you paid for it , and it wouldn't start, on the forecourt.
What would you say if the dealer suggested, that you low load it home, join a forum and rush out and buy some tools and a workshop manual and try and fix it.

I think the appropriate phase would have something to do with sex and travel!

What if it is his only Canon body and he doesn't have another battery?

Another thing to try is using a different card. My 7D2 locked up solid on me after I'd been downloading (using Geosetter on the original files) in the middle of a trip. The files read fine on the computer, but the 7D2 wouldn't do anything when that card was loaded, and Breeze Browser Pro locked up solidly when it tried to look at the directories containing those files (which DPP has absolutely no trouble with!). So evidently there's some kind of "sanity check" on the card's files, going on in camera and in some software.

If you had a grip added, remove and research it.

Any one purchasing a pro level camera, especially one as power hungry as a 7D2 should have more than one battery. I have 5 myself. Three OEM batteries and two Watson replacements.

I have the same problem with mine... I shoot retriever hunt test events and will shoot a couple thousand shots over a weekend. The auto-focus freezes, the shutter freezes, and I cannot pull up images on the view screen when this happens. The problem goes away when I turn off AF. ITS NOT THE LENS... ITS NOT THE BATTERY, ITS NOT THE CARD.... it happens with all my lenses, different batteries, different cards. Its something that manifests itself with the autofocus after shooting a couple hundred shots.

This just plain sucks when I'm in the middle of a shooting gig and the action is happening. Its been into CPS twice now. I'm sending it in for another evaluation and then selling as-is....
