I hooked up my 150-600 C to the dock last night to make a few adjustments and noticed that there was a new firmware version available (Ver. 1.01) It's supposed to improve AF when using the TC-1401 TC and I thought it said (improve other issues) or something to that effect. So I went ahead and ran it even though I don't have a 1401 I figured it couldn't hurt....Wrong. I used the camera and lens this morning without issues. Just a little awhile ago I thought I would try it with my Kenko Pro 300 1.4X to see if there was any improvement there. Well when I turned the camera (7DII) on I got an error message "Firmware Update Failed" ?? tried another Formatted card and the same thing. Took the TC off and camera works fine. So then I tried my Canon 1.4X III......got a "communication error" message and the AV read 00 so that's a no go as well. I would suggest that if you use this lens with a TC other than the TC 1401 that you wait to update the firmware until it's understood what's going on here. I will call Sigma one day this week.

hmm...i don't see how the camera would know you were updating firmware on the lens...i'm wondering if it's an issue with the camera instead of the lens

I'm sure the "Firmware Update Failed" error message on the camera was just a coincidence, a strange one at that but it was looking for a Firmware file on the CF card. Furthermore, with the Canon TC the camera reports a different error message, every time. I would like to think that this wasn't done intentionally to make you buy the Sigma TC, guess time will tell.

I just did the update and it broke the use of my Canon 1.4 TC III also. Gives me the Err 01 (Can't communicate) on my 1DX, 7D2 and 5D3. On my 7D it doesn't give the error but the OS doesn't function so communication is broken anyways.

Funny though the 2xTCIII works fine still. OS functions but of course no AF as beyond f/8 nominal.

Is there a way to downgrade the FW on this lens??

This worries me since I am close to purchasing this lens and I use older cameras. Can anyone else confirm that the OS doesn't work on their 7d or other older camera with the new firmware? I use two t3i bodies, so if anyone has one and can test the lens with updated firmware on it I would appreciate it very much to give me some peace of mind. I too am curious if it's possible to revert to the old firmware with the dock? Thanks a lot guys!

I'll have had mine for three weeks this Sunday, and it works fine on my 50D. I do not know which firmware version it has though as I do not have the dock.

Sigma 150 600 Sports owner here and with the newest firmware on that lens the Canon 1.4 extender III also doesnt work, a Kenko neither (which used to work before the update dont know about the Canon as its new). This on a 7D2. Does however work (without AF on a 70D). Kenko gives the firmware up date failed error?? And the Canon Error 01.

Looks like its a problem with cameras that autofocus at F8 maybe?

For that lens, the focus setting data will be saved in the CPU of the lens as [Lens only], [Tele Converter 1.4x attached], and [Tele Converter 2x attached]. Could issues with the 1.4X TC (for example) be because the "Tele Converter 1.4x attached" calibration hasn't been accomplished or written to the lens?

Sorry to bring this thread back from the dead. Wondering if anything has been resolved with the Sigma 150-600mm being able to use the Canon extenders? I updated my firmware on the Sigma not too long ago (maybe a couple of months). Then, of course, I read this thread when researching which extender to get. Anyone have any info? Thanks.

maybe the firmware killed the use of the other TC on purpose so you have to use the new TC sigma released that was kinda made for the lens

That's my guess as well. Just asking the question in case anyone kinda knew for sure.

I updated to the new firmware a couple of months ago and have not had issues yet with my lens or TC. The firmware in April is not the same firmware as what started this thread however, so I wouldn't be too overly worried.

I just got my 150-600mm C lens and tried my Kenko Pro 300 and it doesn't respond also so and reads that it cannot communicate this is and isn't refreshing as I was thinking it might be the lens but now seems to be a software issue.

I hope that Sigma will address this issue and provide an update to correct the problem.
