Hi,

I have a Canon 7D MK2 and use it with a 300mm F4 EF L lens, if the lens is set at the macro setting in AF and you try to focus on a subject that is further away should the lens immediately focus on that subject without me having to turn the manual focus ring to a further distance before it focuses?

Hope I have explained that correctly the focusing limiter is set at 1.5 I am also using it with a 1.4 converter.

Ian.

I'm not familiar that that lens, so I'm assuming that this is not a peculiarity of the 300.

Assuming that the subject distance is within the range for which you have set the focus limiter, then the most likely reason for the camera not automatically focussing on a further distance is that you have the camera set to not hunt when it can't achieve focus. There is a custom function (II-6 on my 6D) called "Lens drive when AF impossible" that you can set to tell the lens to either keep searching for focus or to stop. I set this to "stop" because I don't like a long focus hunt, but this means that sometimes I have to turn the focus ring to approximately the right point and then try to AF again - I usually find this just as fast as the lens cycling through the focus range, especially if the lens has a long focus throw.

Cheers, Damien

Thanks Damien that sounds logical I will have a look in my menu. That's fixed it simple when you know how.

Thanks again
Ian.
