I was just thinking of a way to say "thanks" to the long term member here (That ME! ) who do not inflate their post count with hundreds of "Cool shot!" posts per day. How about an additional 10 pixels on our avatars for each year on the board. It would be a nice recognition for longevity in a world of "wonder where they went"s!

I think this is one of the best ideas ever presented in the history of the Internet and should be followed up on immediately.

I already have my 100 pixel avatar ready, along with a 110 pixel one in June.

Whadaya think? Huh? Huh? Huh? Huh?

I think an extra 10 pixels for each 1,000 posts. Then I'd get 200x200.

CDS would get 640x480, though...

What if we keep the X and Y pixels as is and allow the Z pixels to expand instead. And to make it more of an incentive, we can grow it by 20 pixels (count it, t-w-e-n-t-y pixels) per year or per one thousand posts (which ever comes first) instead of 10. Now I think that's a better idea. Whacha think, huh?

The problem with this is post count is not really representative of durable and productive participation. I have seen people with 6 months and over 2000 posts. I wonder how that can possibly be, as I have been here 2 1/2 years, active nearly every day, and have about 1500 posts. Well, here is why: The following are actual complete posts, not edits, but the whole post beginning to end.

1) Tremendous shot! :)

2) Result!

3) YUK! Slimey! Good!

5) Wonderful pic:) :)

6) This works great!

7) What a cutie!

8 ) Lovely capture and bokeh!

9) Lovely!

10) Fine work!

So as you can see, it is very easy to inflate one's post count without actually saying anything. Which is why I was thinking of a way to offer an accolade to those of us who have been long term members, but post judiciously.

As a side note: my idea would not reward "old members" who joined in 03 but have not posted in 2 years. Their avatar would remain the same as it is because they are not around to upload a new, premium sized one.

Hmmm... I think we just need a "word count" instead of a "post count."

Personally I think we should base the word count on correctly-spelled words, which should allow me a larger avatar than CDS. :-)

Hmm...well I've been a member for right around 8 months or so, but I don't recall posting too many things like you mentioned, Rad. As a matter of fact, I think most of my posts are rather lengthy. Unimportant and sometimes incoherent, yes, but lengthy, and sometimes informative! I just spend TOO much time on here. That's how I got almost 3,800 posts in 8 months.

No, really, I spend about 2 hours/ day on here, all in all. 18 posts in two hours isn't bad, eh?

How about selling Avatar pixels as a way of generating funds towards forum cost alongside the donations:D

Ahhh peacock beat me in suggesting this. I think it's a great idea to sell it, might garner quite a sum for the board. That is, if those that have avatar and post number envy pony up the money :)
