Will one of the Yongnuo flashes mounted on my 60D trigger my 430ex off camera?

Your 60D can fire your off-camera 430EX II. Check the manual.

I use the pop up flash all the time to fire my 430ex. I was wondering if I mounted another ETTL flash to the hot shoe if that will also fire the 430ex off camera or will only the pop up flash do it.

Oh, yes. Sorry, I misunderstood the question. I believe the YN-565 and 568s will do that. In Canon, you to go to the 550EX, 580EX, 580EX II, or maybe the 600. The YN-622 system does it too, at less cost than a new flash, and with more versatility and control.

Shoe mounted unit needs "flash master" capability.

the yongnuo 565's aren't masters...another cheap option than the ones listed above by geokras is the 90EX that came out with the EOS-m

Thanks. Forgot about the 90EX. It even does three groups, besting the 60D. I wouldn't try to use this one outside, however.

It also does better than the ST-E2, however I wouldn't want to rely on any of the IR-triggering E-TTL solutions outside in the daytime. For that you really need to consider radio triggers.

Does the ST-E2 system use IR? All of the EX units (send & receive) rely on visible light. How do they communicate?

Hi, All the Canon Wireless Light/IR type slaves receive IR - because their sensors are behind IR pass filters.

Speedlite 'masters' emit white visible light mixed in with near-IR from their Xenon tubes. The ST-E2 also has a Xenon tube but it's front face is an IR (pass) filter so the white component never leaves the device.

This explains why Nikon came up with their SG 3 IR (IR pass filter) device for their visible light pop-up commander flashes. (Needs modification to use in a Canon body hot-shoe.)
