Today marks the day in history that the Japanese surrender to the US on the USS Missouri. It took a lot of brave souls to bring bout this day and the end of WW ll. To which I owe a big theak you and a debt which I will never be able to repay.
What does this have to do with transportation?
This man.
Theodore Van Kirk. Better known as Dutch Van Kirk. Navigator for the Enola Gay that dropped "The bomb" on Hiroshima. I had the chance to meet and talk with him during his visit to Charlotte NC in 2013. Quick witted and just a blast (no pun intended) to talk to. He sadly passed away in 2014 to natural causes.
Just thought I would share the photo because of the role he and the Enola Gay had in it
