Zeiss Contax N 85 f/1.4 Conurus EOS Converted (RARE AND SPECIAL)

Price: $1900.00 OBO (REDUCED A BUNCH!)
Payment method: PayPal
Item condition: 9+ Shows little or no signs of wear
Shipping instructions: Fedex 2-day

I am finally leaving Canon for Sony and the EOS mount isn't as friendly to adapt as I'd like. Therefore, it's with a heavy heart that I offer up this special lens. I understand that selling this lens is a lot like selling a very unique automobile: the right buyer must be found - right place/right time and all that. Therefore, I am hanging onto my 6D until this lens sells. This IS a lens that you can justify buying or keeping a camera specifically for!

This is a legendary lens. Quite rare and originally designed to be used with the Contax N autofocus system, it soon found cult status as arguably the best portrait lens ever made. I don't have the credentials to make that claim but it renders portraits far better than anything I've ever shot with. In fact, the margin between it and my second best (85L) is not close.

This lens is in wonderful condition. So beautiful. It includes the Caps, Case, Box and hood. I'm including a NOS hood I bought after obtaining the lens. I paid $2500 for the lens a couple of years ago and $300 for the hood = $2800. I sold it once, regretted it and bought it back. I'm asking $1900 but I'm also taking offers but be real.

Check my feedback comprades!

The pictures are representative of the condition both body and glass (near mint) and there's just a slight amount of micro-dust around the outer edge inside the elements. Hard to see, a non-factor image-wise, but disclosed nonetheless. :)

For those who do not know, the Conurus conversion allows the lens to auto focus with any EOS camera! Please bone up on this conversion if you are interested. The conversion allows micro-adjustments at 3 different distances. This is outside of the micro-adjustment through your Canon camera. Because of the nature of this sale, your feedback and familiarity of this glass will play a role in the sale. I want a no muss-no fuss transaction.

Trades might include other epic (but manual focus) glass. I may also be interested in Zeiss ZF glass or Sony/Zeiss specific glass (with AF).

I know... I can use a smart adapter but I'm not sure whether the AF will work. I wish Novoflex had one... this lens is too good for a cheap adapter...

GLWS. I have the same lens. I tried using it with the Commlite adapter on the Sony A7RII but it constantly hunts and doesn't AF too well. I haven't tried it with the Metabones adapter yet. It might have better success at it...

Yes, that is my fear. The lens focuses so well with Canon EOS cameras but I can't expect a non-Canon EOS lens with AF to focus well with the Sony system when the native EOS lenses don't even do that well in that regard. This lens is better suited to a Canon camera or strictly MF with the Sony system... at least that's my assumption...

Why don't you take it to a store, attach it to a Sony and you will know :)

Because it requires a smart adapter and I'm not willing to adapt a less-than stellar adapter to this lens (which doesn't exist in EOS). All my other adapters are Novoflex. Therefore, EOS mount is the one mount I will not be mounting on my Sony cameras.... hence the sale.

Well, my trade bailed on me so this gem is still available. In the meantime I'll be back looking into adapter options. This is too great a lens to sit! :)
