Hi I just bought this canon ixus 400 digital camera a few days ago. I wanted to connect the camera to my laptop but how come i got this error 'no camera found' and 'camera error. check the lens cover and the cable connections then reconnect.'
i am using windows xp for my laptop.
I've installed the softwares before connecting the cam to my laptop. my laptop could detect this camera but it didn't show up in the control panel on scanners and camera section.
Do I need to install anything else in order to connect the camera to my laptop?
o ya i've tried to install this wia600.exe that i've downloaded from the canon website but still it doesn't work.
can anyone please help.....
thanks a lot.

ok, here are some updates:

apparently the ixsus 400 didn't like my scaner (mustek 1200 ub). that's why the camera worked when it got plugged into another usb port - i unplugged the scanner from it :|

oh, well... when i'll download pictures from the camera i won't be using the scanner and everybody will live happily ever after ;)

If you disconnect the cable from computer without disconnecting from the camera body and reconnect, the camera will not be detected. Make sure to disconnect the cable from both ends, reconnect first to camera and then to computer. Now look through "My Computer" icon.

i can't connect my canon 400D to my computer either. in fact all it does is come up with the new hardware detected wizard and asks me to install the cd, when i do it cant find it and says invalid data.

when i open utility manager it doesnt detect a camera

:|

please help, im fed up with trying to figure it out myself for the past 2 days

I had a similar problem with my A550, after installing a scanner. I uninstalled a scanner, then reinstalled camera, now it works perfectly.

Hi,
I Have the exact same problem with connecting my 400D. I was just wondering whether or not you had overcome this problem yet? If so I'd really appreciate some guidance.

Thanks

First install the camera software(s) that came with the camera without connecting the camera to computer. Now,
1) If the software prompts to connect camera, connect it. Do not forget to connect the cable first to the camera.
2) If the software does not prompt, then finish installation. Restart. Keep the cd in place. Connect the camera to computer as mentioned in the previous point.
Wait..... Computer automatically does the rest.

At work the A550 didn't get picked up by Zoombrowser 4 & gave a "camera not connected" warning. I updated to the newer version from usa.canon.com and everything went okay from then.
