I have the 7D2 camera and it struggles to focus ad I'm wondering if some other could try the following task, then maybe I will know it is a specific issue not a feature of the system.

If I fit the 100 macro or 100-400 mk2 lens and manually turn the focus ring to its closest setting then try to autofocus to a more distant object then it will not even try to focus. If I then manually focus closer to the actual point but still significantly out of focus then it works fine.

Am I expecting too much, I think not, of an expensive combination. I would greatly appreciate it a few of you could try this and let me know what happens. I should add that I cannot replicate this on my 6D.

Thanks in advance - Steve

Your focus search is off. Look into the AF setting menu that says something like "Attempt focus when impossible". Set this to "Enable" or "On".

Edit : The setting actually is "Lens Drive when AF impossible". Values are "on' and "off"

Wow, great solution, working fine now. I had been in touch with technical support and was about to return it and you've saved the day.
If you were near enough I'd buy you a beer or two :-)

I believe "on" in the default. You must have inadvertently turned it off.
