Morning Folks!

I recently took up some light cycling to raise the my HDL :) and am in search of a good bike bag; preferably for the handlebars so I can stop and shoot easily, and quickly.

So far I have found this (external link) (a little pricey IMO), and a couple others. Any insight, and/or recommendations would be appreciated.

Freddy ..

P.S. Here's my bike; it's got straight handlebars ..

I use a Peak Design Camera Clip on a Camlebak strap when I ride with the camera. This keeps the camera nestled in the hollow between my collar bone and shoulder and lets me one-hand pull the camera off while riding. That probably would not work well with your bodies; I use a m43 body.

Depending on how you ride, a bar mounted bag could see a lot of jostling. I used to do it on my road bike with an Arkel bag that had a quick release system. That way I could pull the bag off the bike if I needed to. Amazon seems to have a pretty poor selection. Big names include Arkel, Topeak, LonePeak, Ortlieb, Jandd. I'd look for a bag that had a map sleeve on top so that you could slide your phone into it.

One other option would be Cotton Carrier.

Congratulations on the bike.

I'd suggest Ortlib handle bar bags (Ortlib makes great cycling bags). But if you find topeak pricy then the Ortlib is a no go.

If you where a backpack or camelback while riding the peak design capture clip is a great option. Makes getting the camera quick and easy. But no weather protection that way.

Thanks for the replies gents; I will look into the brands you have mentioned. I do want a bag so I don't have anything hanging off me, and I want it to be inconspicuous as well.

Next I'll be asking for a tripod attachment :)

Have a great weekend!

I don't know if you are only looking for a bag big enough to hold a DSLR with normal size lens or something bigger - my main interest is wildlife, and I have a rear rack on both my hybrid and touring bikes. I regularly ride a paved bike path that follows the old Erie Canal, so lots of good wildlife habitat and ponds on either side of the trail. I use an open-topped Jandd grocery bag pannier and just lay my 7D with attached 100-400 lens (hood reversed, cap on) on top of a fleece vest in the bottom of the bag. When I spot a critter, I just put the kickstand down on the hybrid, or grab the camera and lay the bike down on the touring bike and try to get the shot. Not something I would leave unattended, but works well in my situation.

+1 on Arkel-OD bags. Pricey but nice. The minimalist, wide open design of their HB bag should work well for easy access to your gear. As mentioned Ortlieb makes nice bags too. If you check out the Orlieb site, click on the Racktime products. They aren't as well known but are value priced and a good option.

At the current price showing for the Topeak bag though you can get that and an internal camera insert and be set for awhile.
