Now that they are in LR 2015...how do I locate and delete them without using third party software?

One method is....

Filter by date and order by filename to get the range of images.

Resize window/scale frames to show 2 columns of images. (Left column original/right column duplicates)

Now use the paint tool to just run down one column to select the images in the column.

Delete selected images.

I should have been more clear...I have a C Drive that contains my software only, I thought.
Additionally, I have an E Drive that contains only images.

Somehow, numerous images were moved onto C Drive and disappeared from the E Drive/LR catalogue.
I scooped them all up and moved them back onto E Drive and imported into LR and wound up with
tons of duplicates within LR of varying dates, going back months.

My goal now is to easily rid myself of duplicates.

See my post above, it still applies. :-)

When prompted, select "delete from disk".

Do a search in youtube for

"julieanne kost The painter tool in lightroom"

I'm not precisely following your description, so I don't know if you have duplicate files vs. duplicate entries in the LR Catalog.
I just did a quick experiment (which I don't believer mimics your screw up)

  1. I imported three files into FolderX
  2. I re-imported two of the three files, again into FolderX
  3. What resulted was Img1, Img1-2, FileB, Img3, and Img3-2

...in both the FolderX, and also within the LR Catalog

So in this case, I need to both remove A) the extra entries from the Catalog and B) the files from the disk (in FolderX) as well.

You previously described "numerous images were moved onto C Drive and disappeared from the E Drive/LR catalogue"...how were they 'moved onto C Drive', by using LR to move them or simply using the O/S to move files/folders from old location (drive E:) to a new location (drive C:)?

The you say, "I scooped them all up and moved them back onto E Drive "...again, how were they moved, by simply using the O/S to move files/folders from undesired location (C:) to proper location (drive E:)? And then you reimported those into the Catalog...with or without Copying the file?

Just trying to figure out how screwed up it is, and what needs to be done to get one copy of each file on the harddrive and in the LR Catalog.

Something I'm not clear on:

When you say you imported "duplicate images", are you saying you have duplicate Raw images, or a Raw image with a "duplicate" in a different file format?

Either way, I'm sure there's a "fix", but you'd need to take a different approach, depending on the above question...

It seems to be a moot point now...I ran a System Defrag. on C Drive and now LR is gone...Why???

Is the LR Catalog folder still on your harddrive? (Search for: *.lrcat) likely contained in folder C:/Users/(yourname)/Pictures/Lightroom
If so, immediately copy all of that folder to a second location (preferably on an external harddrive) before you do anything to try to 'recover'!

You can reload LR onto your computer, and put that folder whereever the newly installed empty Catalog resides, and your ess will be saved.

Are your running Windows 7?...if so do not bother to defrag your disk ever again, Win7 does that automatically...I have not defrag my system and the defragmenter analysis says my harddrive is 0% fragmented right now!
