came across this last night. any thoughts? Android based would be interesting!

http://www.dpreview.com/forums/post/56451436 (external link)

thread states...

"I learnt this info from a trusted source:

Canon EOS 6D Mark II will be announced Q1 2016.

24 megapixels

About 1.4x better ISO performance than 6D Classic.

Low-light autofocus (centre point) at -5 EV

Canon engineers test two different AF systems for the 6DII, still nobody knows which one will make it to the final product, both feature more AF points than 6D Classic.

WiFi with NFC and GPS

Wireless battery charging with the Qi standard

Internally Canon switches from VxWorks to an Android-based embedded OS, 6D Mark II will be the first Android-based camera from Canon.

Dual-pixel autofocus technology

Touchscreen

Swivel LCD a-la-70D

Anti-flicker a-la-7DII

Will ship in a new box design in gold colour."

Wow new gold color box-I'm getting one!! Seriously all it needs in my book is more autofocus points (faster autofocus would be nice) and higher frame rate anything else would be nice too.

I think it's fine the way it is. If I want more, there's always the 5DIII. It'll be interesting to see the price increase.

I'm waiting for the 6D2 because:

That way a 6D (mkI) will be even less, and maybe I can get one refurb around $750.

Very best,

EXACTLY what I was thinking!

I'm all for new stuff, more resolution, more AF points, more ISO, more features.

But ultimately, I'm more interested in killer deals for good gear as I don't like to buy new stuff and prefer someone else appreciate the depreciation.

I'll kindly accept a well used 6D at a nice price once a new 6D2 comes along and starts pushing things around.

Look at the 7D these days. $400? It's like they're being thrown away!

Granted, a 6D won't lose a lot of value. It's still good.

I can only imagine how important a few more AF points would be, -5 EV low light AF, and a bit more resolution and ISO performance would be, for a wedding photographer or similar, where these things are actually quite critical.

Very best,

Very best,

The only reason I am contemplating it. BUT it would be difficult to pass up a good deal on a mki! It's still a great camera! Hard not to buy a 7dmki right now too!

The 6D can already focus in the dark. 20MP is quite sufficient. If the new one has 1/250 sync and 1/8000 I may be interested. It could use 7D2 style Av/ISO controls, too.

Next 6D will be great, but those aren't the specs. No way android makes it onto the camera.

And I'll give up 1/250 and 1/8000 again to get the silent shutter. It's insane how quiet it is.

Looking at the resource on dpReview it is a new member with one post. Leaves me doubtful, but either way I love my 6D as it is. I doubt a 6DII is going to impress me. Yes better AF would be nice but other than that, I don't need much more than the 6DI.

Having a new OS would make me really nervous. -?

android based would be exciting as hell, considering android has a huge hacking base.

I've always wanted an android based OS on camera, would be excellent to have a highly configurable OS. The possibilities are endless.

the -3ev is pretty good as is, -5ev is ridiculous light levels. The 6D would need a huge boost in high iso performance for the -5ev to be practical.

the 6Dii needs all crosspoints WAY before the -5ev. If an old 60D can have all cross points, why not 6Dii?

I think ppl forget that the 6D is more of an "entry level" FF. It lacks features for a reason. It also sells a ton for a reason. Adding all the extras ppl complain about it missing would just make it a completely different camera at a higher price point.

Eh... dunno about that.

I think the 6D is simply a more focused full frame with that focus being the sensor, and less on the bells & whistles, and a lot of folk appreciate that. It just doesn't have the 1D series features like the 5D3 does. I wouldn't call it entry level. It's far form entry level. There is frankly no entry level in full frame. There never was anything but full frame. APS-C is a new concept to the 35mm format world. The 6D for a while was easily the best full frame sensor Canon had outside of the 1Ds/x series. And that's frankly what full frame is about. You can get 1D series features like AF, crosspoints, and all that stuff that has zero to do with the full frame sensor, on any APS-C, APS-H or full frame sensor from Canon now. So it really is just about the sensor when it comes to full frame, and not the features even, anymore. Canon's best full frame sensor that is available is currently in the 1DX, and it's improved performance in quality & ISO performance comes from it's larger pixels and lower resolution, as the 6D has slightly smaller pixels and slightly higher resolution, but is only within a few hairs of that sensor's overall quality. And the 6D sensor is better than the 5D's sensor by a few hairs, at that.

Just another perspective :).

Very best,
