I use it when shooting in bright daylight and using fast lenses. Or I've used it for sports/motorsports when trying to really stop action. For the fast lenses during portraits and very bright days the solution is either to use a light filter like a 3 stop, or raise shutter speed. Filters cost more than raising SS, plus it is just another thing to take with you and keep track of. Wildlife is another area that stopping action can be great for. 5D4 | 8-15L | 28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS | 24L II | 40mm pancake | 100L IS | 70-200mm f/2.8L IS mk2 | 400mm f/4 DO IS

I wanted to shoot this wide open (1.4) to get the wheel to really pop from the background. It wasn't that bright out but, at 1.4 and having no filter with me, I needed a ss of 1/5000. Fuji X....BAAAAM! Renders way different than Sony.

I use a 6D with a few fast primes. I often max out 1/4000 with them. It requires me to use a ND to cut down the light. 1/8000 would be very beneficial for me.

I love my 6D for above water landscape shooting but it would be overmatched underwater for what I like to capture. Now if the 6DII were the same dimensions as the 6D that would be really great as I can likely pick up a housing for that much cheaper. DPAF would of course be great for video. I don't have any 4K requirements at the moment so would be ok with HD. A 4K option would of course be appreciated. Might need Magic Lantern for that. 6D, 60D, 100L, 24-105L, Sig 150-500, nifty 50, EF-S 60mm, Tam SP70-200 f/2.8 Di VC, Underwater gear T2i in a Watershot housing with Inon S2000 strobes.

I guess I need some ND filter to slow things down. Sony A7 III and some lenses

I really like my 1/8000th shutter speed, and while I never use it the 5D2 sync speed is 1/250th. I feel like it has never really synced at that speed very well (I got the shutter shadow sometimes) so I always shoot it at 1/200th. The other BIG draw back is the cheap AF. They could have at least given it the cross-type AF like the Rebel line got just with the -3EV. Not surprising seeing as you can't. You're also right about it not syncing very well at it's highest sync speed (1/200), most camera's sync speed is a bit slower than it actually can do, the 1Dx has a max speed of 1/250th for example, but should be capable of 1/320h. However the 5dmk2 is probably right at it's actual limit at 1/200 and has no headroom like most cameras. I can count the times i have been in continuous mode on one hand, just the same for needing 1/8000. I completely agree that it needs to continue to be Canon's best low light, lightweight, full frame camera. It's not just 1/8000...its the need for something faster than 1/4000 Blake C

Although, 1/3 of a stop seems pretty insignificant to me, 2/3? okay, that makes more of a difference. If i had a spare minute i'd figure out how to search Capture One by shutter speed, but i cannot recall a time i ever needed more. One time at the beach I ran all the way up to 1/4000 and needed some more, but i just stopped down a little. What I assume is the industry's best Silent Shutter i use all the time. I gladly chose one over the other. yea i usually just need SLIGHTLY more than 1/4000. There's always ways around it though. Unless your are stubborn and want to shoot at 2.8 on a bright day at the beach and refuse to stop down. Blake C

And I end up shooting more like 1/100th or 1/140th whatever the stop is in there. Either way, I don't like the max sync speed of the 5D2 because it still gets shutter shadow.
