Sep 11, 2015 04:18 | #4 Seems they want photographers to buy the A7 or A7r bodies. Actually staying with lower pixel count and increasing quality should be a good thing right? http://natureimmortal.blogspot.com

Sep 11, 2015 11:12 | #9 It seems like its only doing contrast detection as well? At least to me, it seems like they just used most of the features/body of the a7rII and just put in the sensor from the A7s. They should of made the sensor backlit too? The a7rII already seems like a pretty capable camera for about the same price.

I read that the continuous autofocus will drop it down to 2.5 fps. Single shot af is 5 fps. Which makes absolutely no freaking sense. itsray wrote in post #17703504 It seems like its only doing contrast detection as well? Why on earth does a large pixel pitch / low-megapixel / exterme-low-light camera (perfect for events and weddings) have phase detect and 2.5 fps during continuous autofocus? thats rubbish about the 2.5 fps. The better/bigger body is a bonus, but apart from that it is not a massive leap from the A7s. I'll be waiting till the new 24-70 comes out to see if I'll make the Canon to Sony switch. Mark

Most of the features added to the a7s are irrelevant to stills. This is more of a video focused camera than anything, so it really shouldn't be evaluated based on the needs of a photographer....i.e. contrast detect is smoother and as such, more appropriate for video, so they opted for an enhanced contrast detect system vs adding a phase detect system. focalpointsphoto.com

Look at the bhphotovideo Web page. I asked a Sony artisan who's a close friend and he's scratching his head. He said he'd bring it up in their meeting. I like big cinema cameras and I can not lie

For $3k, it can be evaluated alongside the a7rii. Why get an a7s instead of an FS700? Also contrast detect AF wasn't so hot in the low light videos. Do you even shoot pro video?
