I love taking photographs of historical landmarks in my town. I was wondering if this type of photography would sell...of course they would have to look professional. I would have them framed as well. Any thoughts?

Most things can be sold if you can get them in front of the right target audience. Who would your target audience be and how would you market to them?

Thank you for your reply!

My target audience would possibly be art lovers who have grown up here and people who have a love for our town. I would mostly sell through craft shows or contact local art galleries. I am working on a website and once I get my name out there I can sell online. (Not sure how lucrative that is though.)

Heya,

People rarely buy framed printed photos any more. Especially non-personal things.

If you really want to sell prints, you would do better to try to get the photos into businesses, offices, etc, places that purposefully put non-personal local examples on the walls. Approach every office, business, dentist, hospital even, and especially new places. Your chances of selling prints are much higher there than targeting people at a craft/art show. You can also create a calendar series, something useful that isn't super costly, and people are likely to buy that over an expensive large print. Post cards still kind of sell these days too (lots of people buy cheap post cards and put them in scrap books, frame them, collect them, etc, as they're inexpensive and readily available around the world compared to a large print that is expensive).

Very best,

Interesting. I would have never thought.

I only read the first paragraph:
"When uploading footage, audio, images or photographs that depict recognizable human beings or identifiable buildings you must acquire a signed release form."

At that point the author was so mired in his own regurgitated BS I saw no way for him to extricate himself.

I'll try to post a better article later when I get back to my computer.

Edit: okay I took another quick look at that article. That appears to be a terms of service explanation for the site who posted it. Makes the choice to use it even worse. Sorry to sound harsh but the supposed "requirement" to get releases is WAY overblown and there is way to much misinformation out there.

I would add: companies that stage homes for sale. I have no inside information about this kind of business. Only there's a hot real-estate market in my area, and staging has become routine. It always includes something on the walls.
