hey guys,
a photog friend of mine passed away unexpectedly this last year,
and he had a ton of lighting equipment and other gear to his name.
His family is tasking me with selling it, but they want me to buy and keep some of the gear I might find useful.
There's about 8 softboxes of various sizes (all rectangle, with one strip box)
roughly 9 umbrellas, some are very, very large, most silver/white
1 22" beauty dish (Impact brand) with a honeycomb grid (removable),
More stands than I can care to count - some Impact, some Manfrotto.
4x Impact SF-ABRL160s
1x Impact VSLCD 400W monolight
2x Impact VC-500LR monolights
and hardware, few barndoors, snoots and cables ad nauseum.
I currently own two little 36" shoot-thrus and two 45W hairlights that I use for my
product photography. They're crap for anything else.
I realize this gear isn't top quality, but I feel like I could use it for portraiture, and it's better than what I own,
and they're willing to give me prices I can afford.
If I could only get a few things, what would you all suggest?
I was thinking the 400W, a 160 or two, a few soft boxes and the beauty dish and sell the rest for them.
But then I don't really know what I'm doing with studio lighting. Figured this might be a decent way to start.
Thoughts?
