Which tripod and how long are the spikes?
I use spiked feet on 2 of my tripods but the spikes are short and easily removable, so they could be put in general luggage.

It's going to depend on who you ask, and/or who sees it. Tripods are one of those things that some officials (and TSA/airport security aren't the ultimate arbiters) view with greater alarm than others. Technically, any airline or security official can tell you that something poses a danger and won't be allowed, regardless of what the "official" list says. If you can't swap the spikes for rubber feet, you're probably better off just checking it.

This ^^^.

I wouldn't even risk it, take the spikes off and put into your checked luggage. If they are confiscated, depending on the make/model of tripod, replacements, if obtainable, may be expensive.
