Nice plane! We have a few in our local club. From what I've learned, you want to shoot them at 1/250 or under to get the prop blur. That worked ok for me with my 7D - but in a recent outing with my new 7D Mark II, it was more of a struggle. This camera likes higher shutter speeds to keep the image sharp. So now I have to learn to do the prop blur in Photoshop :(

I can understand that, I have not long switched from a Nikon d7100 to a 7d, but I am finding the focus accuracy better on the 7d than the d7100 was.

Interesting that you find the AF on the 7D better. That's been a good body for me shooting small planes and high speed boats :)

Yep - my keeper rate with the 7d is something like 950 out of about 1000 shots with the d7100 is was about 40% keeper rate, both with the same type of aircraft subject.

How is 1/250th different on a 7D than on a 7DII?

According to the 7DII focus issue thread, many say the sensor is denser than the 7D, even though it's only a couple of MP more, and as a result, you can get micro blur causing the image to be not as sharp as you would like. I'm referring to hand holding with longer lenses here - 1/250 on a tripod should be the same no matter which body.

The general consensus is to use higher shutter speeds, which works great for birds or freezing action, but in the case of the small planes, we strive for motion blur in the prop (an perhaps the background when panning) but yet the rest of the plane should be sharp.

Personally, I have only used the 7DII for one outing since I've had it, used it side by side with the old 7D. I had more keepers with the 7D in similar shooting style (granted not a scientific test) so it may be a true characteristic of the 7DII or it could be I need more hands on time with it...

perhaps using the ps shake remover would help I find it sharpens minor blur very nicely

Good idea! I'd forgotten about that feature :(
