I have the above equipment that I purchased last August. I haven't used it much, but I charged it all night last night and it showed a full charge this morning. After using it for about 20 shots at 1/128h power the battery began shutting off. The only way to get it to work again was to remove the battery, then put it back on. After doing that the light would work for a couple of shots then it would shut off again and I would have to remove the battery to get it to work again. The battery showed 3/4 power at that point, but it kept shutting off every couple of shots.

Has anyone experienced this before? I remember there was an issue with the batteries, but I don't remember if this was the problem..

Yes this a very well known problem and discussed into the smallest technical details in this forum.

A resumé can be found here: http://flashhavoc.com/godox-battery-issues/ (external link)

Ok, thanks for the info. I bought the light, and a Godox v860, from Dzone2 on Ebay, I'll contact them.

I'm a photographer in Cheshire, UK. See www.VeneziaPhoto.co.uk (external link), I'm a big fan of Godox, but when I came to use my AD360 a week or so ago, I noticed the Battery Pack was bulging! Wouldn't charge and wouldn't fire the flash. So took it to bits to see the issue, then researched a fix, all you need are:

Screwdriver
Wirecutters
Couple of bits of cable
Soldering Iron/Solder/Flux - plus some soldering skills (that I clearly don't possess!)
2 or 3 Cable ties
3 x 3.7v 18650 Lithium Ion Batteries, mine were Ultrafire 5600 mAh with protection for over charging - will charge 1000 times according to the spec. So the original is rated at 3600 mAh, so more capacity too

Then 20-30 mins and hey, you're done!

So here's a video of how to do it, vimeo.com/258492295

Hope it helps some others out :)

Thanks

Phil

I don't think that you will get a lot of flashes out of a charge.

Look at the space the 18650 needs and the original battery and keep in mind that the technology is the same. These batteries have normally a mAh of 2000 to 2400 so less then the original battery pack.

FYI, the highest capacity 18650 available are 3500mAh: Panasonic (Sanyo) NCR18650GA.
There are many available with higher claimed capacity but it's just that, claim.

Hi

Try here https://www.ebay.co.uk …049087:g:PgcAAOSwo6lWMZ0K (external link)
This is what I used
5600mAh and you do get plenty of flashes

Also bear in mind these are £10 for 4 of which you need three as opposed to £45-55 for an original? Just trying to help here, if you've made the same modification and it doesn't work then fair enough but guessing you haven't?

Thanks
Phil

I was just providing some facts. Pigs don't fly. 3500mAh 18650s are the highest capacities that are available to consumers.

For anyone interested my claims are very easy to verify:. The more you Google the more obvious it becomes.
It's a serious issue. Google "vent with flame" and you will see the consequences of being ignorant.

This first link puts it simply, even though it is from 2016:

How to identify 18650 cell capacity by color / code and how to tell fakes from real – [En]
Posted on 2016.09.08
There are 4 very big companies that produce (used to be) very good quality cells: Samsung, Sanyo, Sony and
LG. And there’s also the 99.998% fakes called Ultrafire.
Practically, all Ultrafire cells on the online
market that state any capacity over 3000mAh are fakes.

The Best 18650 Batteries Of 2018

18650-batteries
What is the valid capacity ranges of Lithium Ion 18650 batteries?
I'm seeing wildly varying capacities that are seemingly fake on 18650 cells, such as these "9,800 mAh" ones on eBay, but are ~$1 / cell.
However, 'genuine' cells from Panasonic and similar name brands seem to top out around 3,500 mAh or so, but cost more like $8 / cell.
How can I tell true capacity apart from the lies?
