Looking for a new wide for my new 7D2. I have a 20mm 2.8 that I use with my 6D, and love it on a FF.

Need something wider. Whats a really sharp zoom, even non OEM that'll handle low light? It would be great to find something that I could still use on my 6D.

Heya,

Tokina's 16-28 F2.8 is crazy sharp, and fast.

On that note, all third party lenses for Canon are EF mount, so they will work on APS-C and full frame alike. They just will vignette on a full frame in some cases, like the ultrawides. So the 11-16 F2.8 will work too, it vignettes but at 15~16mm it no longer does and functions as a 15mm F2.8 at that point on full frame.

Tamron's new 15-30 F2.8 is another one to look at.

And on a budget, there is of course, the Rokinon 14mm F2.8.

Very best,

Add a 1.4x to the Tamron 11-16 and you can use it on your FF.

I never thought of that. I should have never sold it but I had to at the time to buy other toys.

So you can use any EF mount lens on a full frame with the 1.4 teleconverter? IF so, that's great news to me!

Heya,

You can use the third party "for APS-C" lenses on full frame regardless, as they are all EF mount. Only Canon produces the EF-S mount which has a physically different mount. These lenses simply vignette at wide angles on full frame. By adding a 1.4x TC, you're increasing the focal length of course, so it's less wide angle, and shouldn't vignette as bad.

A 11-16 F2.8 Tokina for example is an EF mount, even though it's designed for APS-C sensors. Witha 1.4x TC, it becomes a 15-22 F4 lens on either format, and since it doesn't vingette on full frame at 15~16mm, already, it will not vingette really at all (maybe a tad at 15mm) through the overall focal range now and still be very, very wide (and decently sharp).

Very best,

EFs 10--22. Best choice by far. L or near L optics, lightweight but solidly constructed, and extremely fast and accurate focusing.

but it can't be used on a full frame.

The Sigma 10-20 can, it's EF mount.

The Canon EF-S 10-22 can, with slight modification to the rear mount (but it vingettes at everything other than like 16~22).

Lots of EF-S wides are often modified to work on full frame (removing the rear piece, it's tool less virtually too, people pop them out with their fingers), the 10-22, 24 STM, etc.

Very best,

Well I guess I have to say this. I had the 10-22 and sold it. I thought the Tokina had better IQ.
