Hello,

This is my first post to the forum.

I have a Canon Powershot G3. After I take a picture, the camera thinks for a little while and then displays E09 on the top LCD and the main LCD, and then shuts down. When I check the CF card, nothing has been written to it.

Likewise when I try to read on the CF card from pictures taken on my A95 and 20D, it says "incompatible jpeg format?" The pins on the connector look fine.

What does E09 mean? and how can I fix it? Thanks for your help.

I have never known this fault on my G3
Have you tried shooting on another card?
This wouls tell if it was a camera or card fault.
If you think the pics are lost for good you could reformat and try again.
You could check the card with PCInspectot smart recovery from www.convar.com (external link)
this is a free utility. If or when you have recoverd the pics you could re format the disk in camera.

Actually, I have tried multiple CF cards that work on my other Canons, but I still get the same error. Any other tips? Thankx.

see Manual page 169
it says that if you have a message starting with E followed by a number,
and it appears repeatedly there is a problem.
note the number and take the camera for servicing.

it looks like you are out of luck as far as a selfservice fix.

I wish you luck

Once you've pulled all the images you want off of one of those CF cards, try formatting that card in the G3, using the menu. Cameras can be finicky about the format. However, if that doesn't help, you probably do need to send it in for service.
