I shoot night football and indoor volleyball, and usually shoot raw to help with PP.

Last couple of Friday nights, I've used iso 3200 to 6400 to give 640 to 800 shutter speed.
(Nikon 610)

I'm not too familiar with exposure compensation.

Question 1 :
Is there any way to use exposure compensation, to help get lower iso or faster shutter speed ?

Question #2 :
Do you use the camera's "high iso noise reduction" ?

exposure comp basically tells the metering system to over or under expose.
Of course, your shutter speed will increase if you set exp comp to underexpose and inverse is true for overexposure
Unless you are adjusting exp comp because the metering system wasnt accurate in the first place, you exposure would be off.
However, many photogs expose to the right and decrease highlights in post, for better results.
Instead of underexposing your photos and bringing them back up in post, you should expose correctly or overexpose slightly and then tone it back down in post.
To get lower iso and or faster shutter speed, get a faster lens.

high iso NR is for jpegs only. I don't shoot jpegs, so I dont use it. Generally, applying NR in lightroom is preferable so you can fine tune it.

Canon 1Dx - Sigma 120-300 2.8
Canon 5DII - Canon 24-70 L 2.8
Canon 7D - Canon 40STM 2.8
Canon FT - 55 1.2

I shoot hockey for my son's team and I usually set my camera on manual setting with similar iso (mostly 4000-6400) to get fast enough ss (at least 600). The camera I use is canon 7D and as much as possible, I try to slightly over expose it and bring it back dowin in post as m.eo.w mentioned above. It is easier to expose to the right when you set your camera on manual setting...

Also, I disabled the "high iso noise reduction" in the camera and deal with the noise in post. Hope this helps
