I have a chance to buy a nice in box Sigma 80-400mm 4.5-5.6 EX DG OS APO with all it came with,,Tripod collar, hood strap in great shape,,dirt cheap??whats your thoughts ??Yes i know its big and heavy,,but SLR Gear rates it very high 9.5,,also i know it has no HSM?

If its dirt cheap and you have a use for it buy it.
If as you say its dirt cheap if you don't like it you can probably sell it for more than you paid, just check used prices on Ebay or similar to make sure

I tried one quite a while ago and the images were quite nice/very good compared to my (then) Canon 100-400 Mk1. Unfortunately the AF was very slow, I mean VERY slow! Even my Canon A1 with FD lenses (Manual Focus) was faster.
If AF speed doesn't matter then the example I tried was very good indeed, but if the AF speed mattered then it was hopeless.
Try before you buy - perhaps the one I tried was not typical? The IQ was fine but the AF...............


Life is for living, cameras are to capture it (one day I will learn how!).

Dirt cheap? Buy it. Try it. Sell it if you don't like it.
