The plea went out from a local rescue site that they needed a home for this beautiful white Pigeon. The bird was banded, and originally bred in Canada, but some how got lost, and ended up in Vermont. With quarantine issues, and all that goes with returning a bird, they asked if a new home could be found. Being that I had a nice new predator proof chicken coop, they thought I could give it the perfect home. I don't know if it's a male or a female. Can't wait for it to trust me enough to handle it. My coop is like an aviary, with plenty of room to fly high above the chickens.

Good for you Sandy, to adopt this beautiful bird. Apparently it wasn't bred as a homing pigeon.:-) Hope it does well in your hands.:-)

Thanks Terry! It's been fun! They said the bird is 3 years old, and they don't know how it got lost.

It's a beautiful bird, Sandy. But I a reminded of when our erstwhile next door neighbors had two doves in a cage on their back deck, not too far from our bedroom window. They cooed night and day; they were like a broken cuckoo clock. Suffice it said, we were not sad when they moved away.

Thanks Al...my grown son dislikes pigeons for the very same reason. He was glad when they moved away from our farm many years ago. One of my chicks (Chickens) that I have been raising since May turned out to be an unwelcome Rooster! That Pigeon ain't got nothing on him...talk about racket day and night...I got it! Luckily I'm up at the crack of dawn or earlier, every day! So far no cooing at all.
